Djembe: An African Drum
Wednesday, August 6th, 2008
When I first saw the word djembe, I thought to myself, what is that? I could not even pronounce it to be honest. I later did
some research and came to find out that it was an African drum. It is pronounced jembey, so you totally disregard the d in
the beginning. Knowing this made it a lot easier to try to say. The djembe is a small drum that you have most likely have
seen in an art museum. Many djmebes are made from natural materials, but for the enviroment conscious person the
Remo djembe is the perfect alternative, as it is made
exclusively of synthetic materials. The drum is popular all over the world, but originally came from West Africa. It is amazing how a such a small instrument holds so much history.
